Chapter 15: Dinnertime Stories

In the den, Kate, Lilly, Humphrey, Garth, Wildflower, Star, Wildfire, Jet, Hunter, Lupa, Winston, Eve, Tony, Niara, Conrad, and Danielle were enjoying their meals.

"Sure is nice to have dinner with you two again." Conrad says to Humphrey and Wildflower.

"You got that right, Dad." Wildflower says, "But what confuses me is how you survived."

"'Survived'?" Jet and Lupa ask in unison.

"Well Wildflower," Conrad says, "When your mother and I hid you in that bush, the sound of two wolves heard being shot you heard wasn't us."

"Then what was it?" Wildflower asks,

"Coyotes." Danielle replies, "But I nearly got grazed by a bullet."

"Oh," Wildflower says, "But why didn't you come looking?"

"We did." Conrad says, "We just couldn't remember where we hid you."

"Figures." Wildflower says,

"So that's how Wildflower got separated from you." Kate says, "But I don't get how Humphrey was separated."

"Relocation." Conrad says "Danielle, Wildflower, and I were shot by park rangers and taken to another park."

"Yellowstone to be exact." Wildflower says,

"And after we woke up, we noticed Humphrey was gone since he was hanging out with his Omega friends." Conrad says,

"No wonder I couldn't find you guys!" Humphrey says, "Those park rangers can be so annoying sometimes."

"I agree." Niara says, "I with they'd just leave us alone."

"True that." Conrad says,

"Word." Jet says in agreement,

"But how about Niara? How'd she get separated from Tony and Garth?" Lilly asks,

"Poachers." Niara says, "I was out minding my own business one time and I heard gunshots."

"Really?" Star asks,

"Yes, not to mention they got lucky shot on my leg." Niara says, exposing her left foreleg, "You can still see the scar."

"Ooh." Humphrey says, wincing from the sight,

"Now I know what that mark there was." Wildflower says, covering Lupa's eyes,

"I'll bet they caught you from that shot, didn't they?" Tony says,

"You got it." Niara says, "After they got me in the leg, I took a tumble which alerted me to the injury. I tried go get home, but a net fell on me and two poachers came. They put me in a crate and loaded me onto a truck, the next day I found myself in a room loaded with animals."

"Room loaded with animals? Sounds like a rare animal collector to me." Garth says,

"Well, not really." Niara says, "The animals in there were more like the common types, dogs, cats, birds, turtles, you name it."

"Oh." Garth says, "Must've been a veterinarian then."

"You got it." Niara says, "Then a human came to my cage and took me to this room with metal table and placed me on it."

"They noticed that you had the bullet wound and bought you from the poachers, huh?" Tony says,

"Indeed they did." Niara says, "They removed the bullet and cleaned off the wound to prevent any disease."

"Definitely veterinarian." Garth says,

"Yes," Niara says, "They kept me at that place for a few weeks until my wound fully healed, then I was back on my paws and headed back here. But I had to find out where I was first."

"Did you find out where you were?" Hunter asks,

"Yes." Niara says, "It turned out I was in Salt Lake City, Utah."

"Wow, must've been a long walk back." Conrad says,

"Yes." Niara says, "The reason it took longer was because I was captured again and taken the San Diego, California."

"Wow, that sure is quite a long ways away." Danielle says,

"You bet. It took me 3 months to escape from the zoo there." Niara says, "Then I hopped on a few trucks and a train to get the rest of the way here."

"Wow, kinda reminds me of how Conrad and I got here." Danielle says,

"Except we didn't get shot." Conrad says,

"You ALMOST got shot, Dad." Wildflower says, "Almost."

"Yeah, almost died there." Danielle says,

"Ugh, don't remind me." Star says, giving an angry glare to Jet.

"What do you mean?" Niara asks,

"She fell into a river and nearly fell over a waterfall last week." Wildfire says,

"And Jet and Ralph were the cause of it." Hunter adds,

"Hey, how were we supposed to know that would happen!?" Jet says,

"Well, your mind must've been blind 'cause you didn't think about what would happen since the river was going so fast." Hunter says,

"Oh, now you've done it!" Jet yells and starts to walk up to Hunter,

"Alright, break it up you two! BREAK IT UP!" Humphrey yells as he pushes Jet back.

"Wow, son. I never knew you were so disciplined." Conrad says, "You're usually like a playmate to pups."

"Well, that's what comes being a father." Humphrey says, "I had to gain some self discipline sooner or later."

"That's my boy." Conrad says,

"Now you two are starting to sound like Alphas." Kate says,

"Hey, we're still fun-loving types my love." Humphrey says,

"Looks like it's getting late." Niara says, "I might as well get back to the eastern side, it's been so long since I've slept with Tony."

"Okay, guess we'll see you tomorrow." Eve says,

"Later!" Niara says as she leaves with Garth, Lilly, Star, and Hunter following her.

"You two can bunk with me and Hutch." Wildflower says, "It's been a while since we slept together."

"You're right," Danielle says, "But it wouldn't be complete if Humphrey didn't join us."

"I'd love to." Humphrey says, "It could be a slumber party."

"Oh, Humphrey." Kate says with a hint of playfulness in her voice,

"Well, see you tomorrow." Humphrey says, giving Kate a nuzzle.

"Hey, wait for me!" Jet says, running to Humphrey.

"Of course. Come along, son." Jet says,

"Looks like it's just the four of us now." Kate says,

"Well, at least Humphrey got to see his parents again." Winston says,

Meanwhile, at Hutch and Wildflower's den, the group had already settled down.

"See you kids in the morning." Conrad says,

"Same here." Wildflower says, "Good night everyone."

"Goodnight." Humphrey, Jet, Lupa, Conrad, and Danielle reply.
