Chapter 3: Training and Reunion

The next morning, Zelda woke up to find herself in a small house. How she got there, she didn't know. She soon saw the water dish and went to get a drink from it. As soon as Zelda saw her reflction, she reared up onto her hinds legs in surprise, hitting the dish with her paws and sending it crashing into a wall.

"What the-?!" Link yells, woken up from the sound of the clay dish breaking and fell out of bed in surprise.

The sound of the dish shattering immediately brought Zelda back to reality. She then remembered that she had been turned into a wolf and went to live with Link until they found a way to return her to normal.

"What's going on down there?!" Link yells from the upper floor, taking aim with his bow.

"Sorry, Link." Zelda says, still standing on her hind legs. "I accidentally broke the water dish."

"Oh." Link says, putting the bow away, "Don't worry, I can always fix that one."

"So, what're we going to do today?" Volvagia asks, now awake.

"Well, I think we should see if Zelda will be able to get used to her new form first." Link says, getting a bag from a table and climbing down to the bottom floor.

"And how shall we start?" Zelda asks, going back to standing on 4 paws.

"Well, I'll need to see if you have anything one you that may be useful to you." Link says, "But I'll need you to lie on your back first."

"Seriously?" Zelda asks,

"Yes." Link says,

"OK." Zelda says, lying on her back with her white underbelly gleaming in the light coming from the skylight.

"First off, I'll need to see your claws." Link says, lifting one of Zelda's paws.

"OK." Zelda says, unsheathing her claws.

"They look sharp enough." Link says, examining the claws. "Now the teeth."

Zelda opens her mouth to allow Link to see her fangs.

"Impressive." Link says, "These fangs are sharp enough to dig into the skin of a bullbo!"

"Thanks, I guess." Zelda says, "What next?"

Link responds by snapping his fingers near Zelda's ears, making them twitch and face the direction the sound is coming from.

"Hearing is great." Link says, "Now, follow by finger with only your eyes."

Zelda looks carefully at Link's finger as her light blue eyes follow it's movement.

"Eyesight's good." Link says, pulling a small wooden hammer out of the bag, "And now for your reflexes."

Zelda eyes the hammer cautiously as Link goes to the lower half of her body. Then Link taps Zelda's leg, who responds by a suddenly kicking him in the chest.

"Sorry." Zelda says nervously,

"Don't worry." Link says, getting back up. "I've been pummeled numerous times. And the reflexes are great."

"I'll say." Volvagia says,

"Now what?" Zelda asks,

"We go outside." Link says, "To test your fighting skills."

"OK." Zelda says, getting back on all four paws and following Link outside.

"First off," Link says, turning into his wolf form, "We'll start with a simple leap and bite."

Link jumps at a scarecrow and bites it, ripping one of the arms off in the process.

"Now you try." Link says,

"OK." Zelda says, a little uneasy.

Zelda lowers herself, ready to pounce. Then she leaps and... completely misses the scarecrow and crashes into Link. Knocking the male black and white wolf onto his back with her on top.

"That hurt." Link says, lifting his head and going nose to nose with Zelda, causing both of them to blush.

"S-sorry." Zelda stutters, quickly getting off of Link.

"Don't worry about it." Link says, "I've had worse injuries than another wolf landing on me."

"So, shall we continue?" Zelda asks,

"Sure." Link says, getting back on all 4 paws.

After a while, Zelda was finally getting used to being a wolf.

"I think I'm getting the hang of this." Zelda says, knocking a scarecrow over with a spin attack.

"You sure are." Link says,

"Link!" someone yells,

"Uh-oh." Link says, quickly returning to human form.

"What about me?" Zelda asks, almost frantic.

Link quickly whispers into Zelda's ear, telling her of a plan as he wraps a white cloth around one of her forelegs.

"OK." Zelda says,

Just then, Ilia comes running up.

"Hey, Ilia." Link says, "What brings you here?"

"Fado needs help with the goats." Ilia says, then she looks at Zelda, "Is that a wolf?"

"Yes." Links says, "I found her in the woods this morning. Poor thing had her paws stuck on a tree root."

Zelda shows Ilia her "damaged" paw.

"Oh." Ilia says, "I'm sure the spring can heal this."

"Yes." Link says, "Tell Fado I'll be there in a minute."

"Sure." Ilia says, then she runs off to the ranch.

"Good thinking." Zelda says when Ilia leaves,

"Thanks." Link says, "Our cover really would've been blown if you had the tiara on."

"Where is it?" Zelda asks,

"Back in the house." Link says,

"Oh." Zelda says,

"I better go help Fado with the goats." Link says, "Be right back!"

After a while, Link returns to the clearing on Epona.

"How'd it go?" Zelda asks,

"Wasn't too much trouble." Link says, dismounting Epona.

Just then, the postman comes running up.

"Mr. Link, I have a letter for you!" the postman says,

"OK, let's see it." Link says, taking the letter.

"My duty here is done!" the postman says, then he runs off.

"What does it say?" Zelda asks,

"As strange as it sounds, it says it's from Midna." Link says,

"Midna?" Zelda asks, "But how? The mirror was destroyed."

"Yes, but the rest of the letter says that the mirror had been repaired and Midna is now asking us to meet her in the Twilight Realm and she knows how to turn you human again." Link says,

"Then we better get going." Zelda says,

"Yes, but we can't reach the mirror chamber on foot." Link says, "But maybe we could warp there."

"Of course." Zelda says, "The crystal Midna gave can also teleport us!"

"Then we're warping to the mirror chamber!" Link says,

"We better get my tiara." Zelda says, "Midna may be able to recognize me if I wear it."

"Good idea." Link says, then he enters his house and returns with the tiara.

"I'm ready to go." Zelda says as Link places the crown on Zelda's head.

"Then let's go." Link says, transforming into wolf form and teleports with Zelda.

Later, the 2 wolves appear at the mirror chamber, and much to their surprise, the mirror was there and the portal was opened.

"Strange." Link says, "It's like we're being expected."

"Midna's letter did ask us to meet her." Zelda says,

"Then let's go." Link says, transforming into human form and entering the Twilight Realm with Zelda.

Later, the duo had reached the throne room, where Midna was.

"Link?" Midna asks,

"Yes, Midna." Link says, "It's me."

"How'd you get here?" Midna asks,

"The way we did in the Mirror Chamber." Link says,

"Strange." Midna says, standing up and walking up to Link. "I thought the mirror was destroyed."

"Now that is strange." Link says, pulling out the letter. "This letter says you knew the mirror was repaired."

"I never wrote that." Midna says, "I didn't know the way to the Twilight Realm had been fixed."

"Now this is confusing." Link says,

"I can't argue with that." Midna says, "But it's great to see you again, Link."

"Same here." Link says,

"And who's that?" Midna asks, noticing the gold and white wolf.

"It's Zelda." Link says,

"Zelda?" Midna asks, confused.

"Yes." Zelda says, "It's me. I'm just in a different form."

"No kidding." Midna says, "Reminds me of when Link and I first met."

"The letter also said that you knew how to turn her back to her normal form." Link says,

"That would be possible." Midna says, "But I'm not sure my power can fix this."

"Well that's a shame." a voice says,

Everyone looks to see a dark hooded figure with a spellbook.

"Who are you?" Midna asks,

"You'll find out." the figure says, drawing a sword.

"Against us?" Link asks, drawing his sword and shield.

"Yes." the figure says,

"Then let's find out." Midna says, drawing a black and blue sword and a shield with the same design as a shadow beast's face.

Zelda attempts to attack the figure, but it effortlessly hits Zelda with its sword sending her flying across the room.

"Who's next?" the figure asks,

Both Link and Midna repsond by attempting a jump attack on the figure, but he teleports to another area in the room.

"Playing hard to get are we?" Link asks,

The figure jumps at Link and Midna, but they dodge out of the way and Link scores a hit on the figure.

"Impressive." the figure says, dodging another one of Link's attacks.

"Midna!" Link yells, then Midna scores a hit on the figure.

"Nicely done." the figure says, "But now it's time to end this."

The figure speaks in a different language as a magic aura emits from the book. Link, noticing something climbs up onto the throne and pulls out his picto box.

"You're doing anything to us." Midna says, rushing in for an attack. But an energy field surrounding the figure prevents her from getting to it.

The book soon glows brightly and a shockwave of magic spreads across the room, as the light vanishes, so does the figure.

"What happened?" Midna asks, attempting to stand, only to fall over.

"Uh, Midna." Link says, "You're not going to believe this, but..."

"You're also a wolf." Zelda says,

"I'm what?" Midna asks, surprised.

"Take a look." Link says, lifting one of Midna's "hands".

"I- I don't believe it." Midna says as she looks at her body, showing she had become and black and white wolf with an orange mane and tail.

Suddenly, the room becomes pitch black, then lights up to reveal Ordon Spring.

"Ordon Spring?" Zelda asks,

"Yes." a voice similar to the figure's says, "Now with both you princesses out of the way, my master shall rule both your kingdoms after he takes over another realm."

"Where is this other realm?" Midna asks aggressively,

"Like I'm going to tell you." the figure says, then his voice fades away as he laughs evilly.

"Now what're we going to do?" Zelda asks,

"Head to the Sacred Grove." A voice says, then a ball of light appears from the spring and takes the form of a goat.

"Ordona." Zelda says,

"Yes." Ordona says, "You 3 must head to the Sacred Grove to retrieve the Master Sword. You'll need it on your next journey."

"Will it be able to turn us back to normal?" Midna asks,

"That, I do not know." Ordona says, "But you must get the Master Sword. I know it'll be useful to you."

With those words, Ordona disappears.

"Well, we better get going." Link says,

Later, Link and the princesses reach the Sacred Grove.

"There it is." Link says, looking at the silver blade with a blue-violet hilt. "The Master Sword."

Link grips the sword by the hilt, then slowly pulls it out of it's resting place as the blade glows brightly. After the light fades, Link turns toward the princesses.

"Did it work?" Midna asks,

"I'm afraid not." Link says, looking down at the 2 wolves.

"Guess we're stuck this way." Zelda says,

"Maybe some of the other Light Spirits can help." Link says, turning into wolf form.

With those words, the trio warps out of the Sacred Grove and into South Faron Woods.
